==History==

Baker University was chartered on February 12, 1858 by ministers from the Kansas-Nebraska Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The ministers wanted to create a refuge in education amidst the growing Bleeding Kansas conflict that preceded the Civil War. Named for Osmon Cleander Baker, a distinguished scholar and bishop of what is now the United Methodist Church, the school holds the honor of being the first university in Kansas.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=History )〕〔https://www.bakeru.edu/images/pdf/President_Search/Presidential_Prospectus.pdf〕
